Due to major transitions in the past year I have been experiencing horrible middle of the night insomnia. Wake up at 2:30 and am up for 2 or 3 hours every single night (been going on for several months - worry, sadness, anger, more worry, fear, etc...)
I recently met a lady and we became friends and she told me about her experience with walking the Camino. I knew right away this was something I had to do. The idea of this trek immediately called to me. So I started walking...first 2 miles a day, then 5, then 7 and finally up to 10 miles a day when I can go.
I got my backpack in last week, and this week went down and got fitted and purchased my boots. Yesterday I went for a hike to start breaking them in. Walked 10 miles (hills included), with a 17 lb loaded pack in 38 degree weather. End result = slept ALL night!! I. Am. Cured. ;)

Well in my own experiences Camino walking, I rarely have problems sleeping on “The Way” – Fresh Air and Good Food washed down be equally good local wine all helping – So I would say that you certainly won’t have trouble sleeping while you walk the route yourself – Where you fall into your old patterns once you get back home is, at least to a point, up to you ;-)

One thing I would trim is the weight of your pack, 16 lbs is a taj on the heavy side.

    Good Luck and Buen Camino

Angie94, you've already experienced the benefits of your body needing rest after a good long hike as RJS he described. Perhaps the root causes of your recent insomnia can be sorted out, or processed while on the Camino. Upon your return home you might look into further support if the insomnia symptoms return. Have yourself a great experience that will stick with you for years to come. One can't help to be changed by this trek. Once done, the hook is in, you'll be back!

At home I normally go off to bed around midnight to 2am and up at 8am. On the Camino I am often asleep by 9 to 9.30pm and awake by 5 or 6am.

    Such a different life.....

Another possible reason for sleep well. When walking the camino is you become focused on the journey ahead and forget about all the troubles, stress and strains that every day life bring at home. Not forgetting the camino sprit & experience.

    Carpe Diem & buen Camino

On the Camino, I rarely have sleeping problems. I am usually asleep before lights go out and I awake by 5 or 6.
