My wife and I would like to become volunteer hosts at an albergue on the Camino. If someone could tell us how to get started, it'd be very appreciated.

    Hi Tom

I aren’t sure which country you are from – I am a Brit and if I wanted to become a Hosptalario at a Refugio, then I would contact The Confraternity of Saint James, they are a British organisation and have two Refugio’s, one on The Camino Frances at Rabanal https://www.csj.org.uk/about-us/hospitality-our-refuges/refugio-gaucelmo-at-rabanal-del-camino/ and one at Miraz on The Camino Norte.

The first of the above links has an application form to become a Hosptalario https://www.csj.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Hospitalero-application-form-CURRENT.pdf

I hope this at least sets you off in the right direction

    Good Luck

    Rob

Hey Tom - If you're in Canada or the US, check out the Canadian Hospitaleros.

They do annual trainings across Canada with subsequent placements along the Camino. Even if you're from The States, you can join them if you're interested in becoming a volunteer hospitalero for two weeks. Buen Camino!

There is a local camino enthusiasts group in Indianapolis. There is an upcoming presentation at REI on the camino. I mentioned to the coordinator that we will miss the meeting since we'll be in St Jean on Sept 7th and begin our camino the next day. He mentioned that he will be a hospitalero at the albergue municipal in Najera from September 1-15 and the co-hospitaleros are from France, Italy and Spain. Not sure about what and where his training requirement was.
