    hi all

Well after three years and five visits we are on the last leg to Santiago. We left Dublin very early on Friday morning (6am) and arrived in Sarria Friday evening at 7pm.

Yesterday we took a taxi back to Triacastela and walked into Sarria. It was a beautiful morning. Started with low lying clouds but we were soon above. For most of the walk we were in lovely forests with great views over the valley of the river Sarria. By lunchtime it was pretty hot and we were very happy to arrive back to our hotel.

    Two things stick out from the day, apart from the beautiful scenery;

1 there are some pretty steep descents, particularly down into Montan; and

2 for those tired of the standard Menu Peregrino, we found a really really nice place close to the church called a Travesía Dos Sonos. Great chef trying to do different things and a great guy on the bar called Josef who introduced me to the wine of the region Mencia which was delicious.

Lots of people still arriving into Sarria last night on the 7pm train so I imagine the Camino will still be busy right into Santiago. Glad I have my reservations made.

    Buen Camino all

    Greg

Well we finally made it to Santiago today. We also got very lucky and attended the pilgrim mass this evening and saw the Botafumeiro in action .

It’s been a wonderful week and I finally have my Compostela and certificate of completion....yaaaaay.

I will write a full report when I get home and have access to my computer.

    Buen Camino all

    Greg

Hey Greg - Congrats! Wasn’t it a great feeling seeing the cathedral for the first time and those final steps through the old city to the center? I hope you guys treat yourselves to one heck of a great meal and have a little time to enjoy Santiago and savour your journey. Like so many others, I look forward to reading your travel accounts on this last leg. Buen Camino!

Congradulaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaations . Your post brought back wonderful memories of when i was walking the the final stage through Galicia Sarria to Santiago, walking above the morning mists in sunshine with clear blue sky's (it's like on top of the world) and the wonderful scenery. Im flying out on Saturday to work on the camino as a hospitalero at our CSJ Gaucelmo Albergue in Rabanal de Camino. The reports I'm receiving from Rabanal is that there are a lot of pilgrims still on the camino. I'm looking forward to welcoming and meeting the pilgrims from all over the world . It's hard work long hours but very rewarding/ wonderful experiences.

Fiona who I will be working with is already in Spain walking the camino ingles and will be joining me on Saturday

    Carpe Diem.

    Hi Raymond John

I'm not in the least bit jealous (waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa). One of the loveliest places on the Camino. I loved the little church. Although we were only passing through we stopped by in the albergue to say hello.

A friend who finished in Finisterre yesterday tells me it has gotten a little colder there now so bring a warm fleece.

    Hi Wily

Yes it is really a most remarkable thing. I had read a lot about people being disappointed with Santiago after their Camino but that was certainly not the case for us. The Galician piper under the arch makes for a great welcome and then turning to see the Camino up on your left was just amazing. Have to say it was a really emotional moment.

    Hi Rob

Well we just decided that we really need to "finish properly" by walking to Finisterre, maybe next spring. After that who knows :)
