Just finished dinner at the Barcelona Wine Bar in Boston. Shades of dining in Spain! Jamón Serrano, Spanish goat cheeses, tapas including pulpo, and, of course, paella de mariscos. I think a very long walk will be in order tomorrow. Buen Camino!

Oh I volunteered at Diverbo (outside of Salamanca actually but they shuttle you back to Madrid) for a week before continuing my CF starting in Burgos. I met two a couple whom were also fellow pilgrims and doing Camino Norte after Diverbo. What a great opportunity to begin with a week in Spain meeting and conversing (English-only) to lovely Spaniards who go there for a week of English immersion. Much fun!

Hey Hindsy and Ginamarie - I wasn’t familiar with Diverbo prior to your posts. It sounds like a great program and opportunity for spending a week in Spain and helping folks learn English. For any of us looking for something constructive to do while traveling, this might just be the ticket. Thanks for alerting us to the volunteer program. Buen Camino!

Hey CW - Great looking tarts! I’m sure they were delicious! I’m also sure that the last four would freeze well so that two could be shipped to AZ and the other two out to me in NY. Now who is the tease? Portuguese tarts, wine, and good fellowship swapping Camino stories. Do pass on the recipe you used. Buen Camino!

Hindsy, I'd like to know why they named it Blue Sock also. It's part of a group of Blue Sock Hostels and there are a couple of others elsewhere in Europe. The one in Porto is less than 2 blocks from the busiest part of the Ribiero. It has stone walls, a friendly staff, a bar/snack place in the basement, and is all renovated nicely. It's a walk to the nearest metro stations, but walking a little bit isn't something most here are daunted by :0)).

Should be somewhere around May 14th? That's a rough guesstimate at this point, though!

@Ginamarie this is the first that I have heard of Diverbo. It sounds great and if I can get there I will apply. I checked them on the net and it seems too good to be true!

Hey CW - Thought you might enjoy the first part of this Eater video. Yes, Portuguese tarts!

The title says it all, “A Perfect Day of Eating in Lisbon, Portugal.” So, maybe this will motivate you back to the kitchen to whip up another batch of tarts this weekend. Bom Caminho!

Awwww...now I am keen to see it right now, but the firewalls at work here block it, so I have to wait until I go home. But I love those tarts!

Hey Guys - Here’s a very pleasant short article from Leite’s Culinaria on making authentic Portuguese Egg Custard Tarts or the Patéis de Nata. The short 4 minute video from a bakery in Bélem, Portugal is most interesting when you consider the number of tarts they make every day. Love the ladies working the dough! Check out, too, the recipe! CW, how does it compare to the one you used? Bom Proveito!

Oh man...Wily is still trying to whet my appetite when I am looked behind the Federal firewalls! Have to check it out after work!
Have to say, the recipe I used was pretty easy, and it turned out great. Not exactly like Portugal...but this is, after all...Canada!

Hey CW - I’m a big fan of the allrecipes website. Thanks for sharing! I have had great success with a number of their recipes. As it is a miserably cold day here in upstate NY, it’s a good afternoon for baking tarts! I think I’m going to give Leite’s recipe a try! Pictures to follow assuming they’re presentable. Bom Caminho!

Hindsy and CW - Great success with my Pastéis de Nata! Simply followed the recipe that I found on Leite’s Culinaria. I have to tell you that my kitchen smelled like a bakery as the tarts were in the oven.

As you will notice CW, I took my photo before indulging! So, it looks like a “throwdown” might be in order to see which Portuguese Tart reigns supreme! I have some custard left over, so will probably throw in a second batch tomorrow. Thanks for the inspiration. Bom Caminho!
