This photo just came up on my Facebook News Feed and I thought it was worthwhile posting it on here

This could be at least part of the reason that The Rue de Napoleon over The Col de Leopold is now closed during the winter months – And after seeing this photo, I can now understand why this decision came about !!

But, judging by the amount of snow at Roncesvalles, the Valcarlos Route must also be impassable !!!

    Best Regards

    Rob

That was amazing! Now, I really can't be complaining about shovelling the driveway anymore....though it is still -30, so a little chilly.

Ken, my wife and I arrive in Barcelona Sept 17. We'll spent nights in Barcelona, Pamplona and St Jean and begin our third camino frances Friday, Sept 20, so just a two days behind you. Depending on your pace and days off, perhaps we'll run into you. Buen Camino ! Bob

    Bob,

Currently hoping to be about 10 days ahead of you. I don't have any firm date commitments as yet but looking at the second week of September. Hoping to bring along a couple of first timers.

I started on Sept 18 in 2015, and staying at Orrison was the best choice I made. It took me 35 days, but included a couple of Sabbath days in Burgos and Leon. It was how I marked my 60th year. Buon Camino.

Ken, great that we may have a chance to run into you. Our initial destinations (and places where we'll stay) are the following:
    • Friday, Sept 20 - Roncesvalles; Hotel Roncesvalles
    • Saturday, Sept 21 - Zubiri; Txanxorena
    • Sunday, Sept 22 - Pamplona; Hotel Eslava
    • Monday, Sept 23 - Puente La Reina; Hotel Jakue
Hope you run into you. I'll be walking with my wife. And as a comparison, our hiking plan has us arriving in Leon on Oct 10. No way to predict the weather. For our second camino, we had a few days of rain off and on, then 30 days of blue skies and sunshine. For our first camino, we had rain every Monday until we crossed into Galicia, then rain every day until we arrived in Santiago.

Ken, Sercotel Europa is a very nice hotel with a central location and the breakfast was terrific. We stayed there during our 2017 camino and will stay there again Sept 18 on our way to St Jean Pied de Port. We find it interesting to spend a night in Pamplona, then take a bus to St Jean the following day. Then just a few days later, we hike back into Pamplona as pilgrims. We are staying at Hotel Eslava in Pamplona on Sept 22. We've not stayed there before, but it is located right by the historic walls of the city. You check check it out on Booking.com. Bob
