I want to get my passport before leaving in April. I went to the www.americanpilgrims.com site to obtain one. On their web site they say that they can not issue one for a pilgrimage that starts after April 2 2016. Is there something special happening then?

I aren’t sure which of the Camino’s that you are intending walking, but I have usually managed to get my own Credentials at the starting points of the ones I have walked, so often there is no real need to get them in advance.

This is a very useful site and although it is in Spanish, you should be able to suss out where credentials are available in Spain http://www.elcaminoasantiago.com/planificacion/credenciales.htm

If your starting point isn’t on the list, then post again and I am sure someone will be able to help

    Good Luck and Buen Camino

I am also doing Camino end of April , I understood it to say that you couldn't apply sooner than 3 months of your start date so if you are planning April 16th then January 16th it also said could take about a month we are planning 23April so we will be submitting ours 23jan . That was my interepetation anyway hope that helps

Looking very carefully at what was on the web site, I see that I misinterpreted what was said. If all goes well that will be the last error I make.

I got my pilgrims passport today. It took about a week from when I applied on line. There was no cost.

Uncle Hanny, we ordered our pilgrim's passports from the American Pilgrims on the Camino as you did. I was surprised about the small number of spaces for "sellos" (stamps). We received 42 total stamps, then our credentials were full. Before running out of space, we obtained a new credential at the albergue municipal in Leon. By the time we arrived in Santiago, we collected an additional 32 stamps. So don't be surprised if you need to order a second one along the way! Bob

I agree that the spaces for sellos is limited. However I want to limit all "stress" items that I can for the first few days on the Camino. (I plan to arrive with a few days of worth of euros, etc.) Elsewhere in this discussion group it is pointed out that an additional passport may be obtained, which I plan to do.

I obtained my passport in SJPdP as NZ doesn't have a Camino org. (yet) I enjoyed the process of getting there and getting the passport, it was a great opportunity to meet fellow Pilgrims and see what's what.
