My son and I purchased our plane tickets today for our French camino. We fly out of Texas on the 24th of April this year. We are both getting very anxious for this trip of a life time.

Congratulations. Our ticket purchasing date was basically two sleepless nights for me. We had set the deadline date for buying plane tickets, which thus became the last night to "back out." I hardly slept a wink the night before in anticipation. Tickets were purchased and so I thought at least I will be able to sleep tonight. Wrong! I slept about two hours and then woke up, too excited to go back to sleep. Believe me, it will seem like a long wait but then suddenly the day is here. Enjoy!

I recently purchased my tickets for CP - did the same thing... but was up all night worrying I won't have enough time to train, refine packing list, etc.

I've just bought my ticket to Biarritz for 29th August so am committed! Wasn't worried before, as I've done it before, but that was 3 years ago....
    And now I'm scared!

Please to hear that you are returning to walk another Camino. Try not be scared, your second camino will be so completely different and you will have many new, experiences and meeting. walking, sharing with fellow pilgrims from all over the world. Remember ,the most amazing/ memorial experiences will happen when you least expecting them and in ways you will never imagine.

I will be in Spain from 24th March to 16th April opening the CSJ Albergue Gaucelmo in Rabanal de Camino and then 1st 2 weeks tour of hospital duty'. I am looking forward to working and meeting the pilgrims from all over the world

Armorel.....I like THAT scared feeling, it seems to push you a bit outside of your comfort zone! Someone once told me that if it excites you AND scares you, you should probably do it! Enjoy your planning......

I did it once and badly broke my ankle. The jump was fun, the landing wasn't. Only jumped that one time.

CW, I wouldn't want that feeling all of the time. And especially the raw courage and bravery that goes with that while serving your country, which I deeply respect.

I love your John Wayne quotation , Which can be translated in put your trust in God and go the distance/walk the extra mile.
I was brought up watching John Wayne films and a great fan of his and he had many famous quotations " To be in heaven half an hour before the devils knows your dead "

Raymond John, I couldn't agree more. If your trust is in God, the One who created you, who holds the earth in His hands, who ultimately wants the very best for you....well, fear seems to dissipate.
Although, my favorite quote from the Duke is "TOMORROW IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN LIFE. IT COMES INTO US AT
MIDNIGHT, VERY CLEAN. IT'S PERFECT WHEN IT ARRIVES AND IT PUTS ITSELF IN OUR HANDS. IT HOPES WE'VE LEARNED
    SOMETHING FROM YESTERDAY"

Hey C4S - My wife and I have added the West Highland Way to our list of future hikes as well. I can’t wait to hear about your experience! Will you be doing a blog or have some other kind of record that you’ll be able to share? Enjoy your trek! Buen Camino!

Hi Wily! Yep, it will be on my regular travel blog (notesfromahike.wordpress.com). I've scrapped the idea of the Via de la Plata, but later on in the hiking season hope to get back to do the San Salvador from Leon and then onward to Santiago.

The West Highland Way will, I hope, be beautiful. The lodging isn't exactly plentiful in most places though, and even 2.5 months ahead there were areas almost all booked. But the good news is that for the Kingshouse stage that had no lodging for awhile, the hotel and bunkhouse reopened this February. I'm staying at a Citizen M in Glasgow for a great rate and at the end taking ScotRail from Fort William back to Glasgow, on that same day taking the train to Stirling for the night to see the castle, and then to Edinburgh the next day for a few days before flying home. Am thinking of taking the train out to Dunbar to see the North Sea and the ruins of Tantallon Castle (only a 30 minute ride from Edinburgh).

Do you and your wife have travel plans for this season? All the best!

Yes, time flies! Enjoy the West highland way- hopefully the midges won't have hatched by then! I'm doing a bit of it in June, and will be covered in repellent!

Don t miss out on exploring Glasgow - it's a wonderful city, full of green spaces.(The name means dear green place).
And I hope you are ahead of the midges- maybe too early for them. But they are the plague of Scotland.
Visit the West coast too - it's stunning.x

That journey is definitely on my to do list soon. hmmmm....midges? I read that to avoid becoming a Scotland midge meal, hope for a nice breeze (too tiny to fight the wind), wear light colored clothing (they're attracted to dark colors), and they are too teensy weensy to bite thru any kind of clothing. (that's good news). Is all that true? Sounds a whole lot better than mosquitos or bed bugs to me! I am sure C4S is going to enjoy every moment of that trip. Thank you Armorel for the encouragement to visit Scotland!

Armorel, you are correct it is an Irish blessing . However, John Wayne quoted this blessing in many of the films he made. Not long before you next Camino have a great journey with many Blessings.

I hope there's no snow when I get there! Though I remember last time buying gloves in Rabanal as it was pretty cold.
Hope you are enjoying your stint at the albergue, and giving the pilgrims scones - we just got rich tea biscuits !!
