After displacing about a foot of snow that fell last night here in the Adirondacks, I needed something a bit more indpirational while tending to a sore back and sipping on a nice Spanish red. The article below offers some wonderful insights as to why we travel and may find ourselves on a very cold and snowy day longing for that vagabond life. Although it has nothing to do specifically with the Camino, it, in fact, has everything to do with why many of us find ourselves on the road to Santiago. And of course, one of my favoritrs, Dr. Seuss, offers his perspective as well. Enjoy and Buen Camino!

Those were great Wily...thanks. hmmm, hard to pick a favorite...but maybe Joshua Pelicano's quote. Gee, seriously..I DO miss shoveling that fluffy white stuff. But today it only got up to about 64 degrees. That's cold enough for me...Ha, seems like that cold air goes right thru you. Hmm, I'm with CW, Spanish Red for me tonight too. Brrrrrrrrrrr :D

Gotta go with Hemingway..."never go on trips with anyone you do not love."

Thanks, Wily! I remember you saying the Cesar Pavese one before. I pirated about half of those quotes into a file:). Hope your back feels better soon! Spring is on its way!

Hey C4S - Pavese words are some of my favorites. And although I have often paraphrased his sentiments regarding traveling light, he clearly taps a spiritual dimension deeper than just the weight of one’s backpack. Not long ago, a wonderful discussion got started on the thread, “Should I Go Back.” With that in mind, Dr. Seuss’ perspective from “Oh, The Places You’ll Go” immediately came to mind. “You’re off to Great Places. Today is your day. Your mountain is waiting, So . . . get on your way!” Buen Camino Peregrinos!

Perhaps the Dalai Lama captures maintaining a positive outlook on life better than most. Some of his quotes below address the very characteristics so many pilgrims already understand and value even long before they find themselves walking The Way and then practice well after their Camino is finished.

I particularly like the subheading to this article, “quotes to enlighten your wanderlust and make you a more compassionate traveler.” Does any particular quote speak more to you than others? I hope you enjoy. Buen Camino!

I have always loved the quote "BE KIND WHENEVER POSSIBLE.....IT IS ALWAYS POSSIBLE". I think it is always a choice, and when I don't choose to be kind, it is because 'I' get in the way, my stubbornness, self-righteousness, or some other character flaw rears its ugly head. I love the feeling of being free, at peace, clear-headed and living on purpose. I too, Wily....like the term "enlighten your wanderlust"! Thank you for sharing that article. :D
