Hey Ash - No, the Via Algarviana along the southern coast of Portugal is not the same as the Camino Portugués that begins in Lisbon. Although I'm not familar with its infrastructure, here are a couple websites that may give you more information.

The last link is a pretty extensive guide that will give you some accommodation information on the different sectors of this walk.

    Bom Caminho!

Thanks Wily - I have looked at the links now. The last link is very comprehensive. I am thinking about doing this walk in May 2017 , anyone else out there thinking about it?

Hey Ash - This recent New York Times article, although it has little to do with the Via Algarviana, will give you some insights into the southern region of Portugal that you're interested in. Enjoy!
